Budget 2007 latest

Wednesday, 21 March 2007
Gordon Brown has ignored the automotive industry's calls for a “fair budget” and doubled road tax on the most polluting vehicles.

4x4 Parliament
4x4 sales could be hit
Taxes will rise to £300 this year and again in 2008 to £400 for larger-engined vehicles. The current tax level, which covers most 4x4s and sports cars, stands at £210. Industry fears that the chancellor would deliver a green budget have been confirmed as fuel duty also rose. This year's 2p increase will, however, be offset for the next six months. It is anticipated that the government may also announce reductions in vehicle excise duty for owners of the least polluting cars, such as hybrid vehicles.

I'm an animal welfare officer, I need my 4x4 to get to many of the farms I visit, again we see this as more tax on the rural community
