January saw BMW account for more than half of the number of new car launches in a bumper month, according to new vehicle data from Cap.
Cap said 443 new cars hit showrooms in the first four weeks of the year – a 33 per cent increase on the same period last year.
BMW introduced 232 model variants, representing 53 per cent of the total. Mercedes-Benz followed with 43 new model variants while Ford was third with 42 new cars.
VW and Mazda introduced new models, while Maserati and Hyundai brought out just three new variations. The light commercials market saw 81 new vans added to Cap's database. Mitsubishi accounted for 63 per cent of new models, while Fiat provided 23 per cent. According to Cap data, the January total for cars beat February 2004 when 452 models were entered into its database.
