FORTHWAY Group, one of Fife's largest car dealers, has ceased trading.
Showrooms at the Glenrothes-based company have been emptied of stock and signs in the dealership window say the business is closed until further notice.
The group runs the Hyundai, Citroen, Chevrolet and Seat franchises from the Eastfield Industrial complex.
According to reports, the company has gone into administration and manufacturers have withdrawn all stock and closed accounts with the Forthway Group.
Industry speculation suggests that Arnold Clark, ranked third in the Motor Trader Top 200, has expressed an interest in taking on the site.
The company employed 40 staff across the business.
No-one at the dealer group was available for comment as Motor Trader went to press.
