VW doubles profits

Full year profits at Volkswagen more than doubled during 2006.

Latest accounts from the German carmaker show that overall net profits leapt to 2.75bn euros (£1.8bn) from 1.12bn euros a year earlier. Operating profits before one-offs rose to 4.38bn euros from 2.9bn euros during the same period. VW said its performance had been boosted by gains from unit disposals, strong sales and the positive impact of German corporate taxes.
