Car supermarket Motorpoint opened its fourth and largest UK outlet in south Wales this month.
The new 10-acre site is at Newport's Queensway Meadow industrial estate and was acquired from British Car Auctions. The launch of the business will create about 40 jobs. The company has existing outlets in Burnley, Derby and Glasgow.
According to site manager Charles Faulkner, the group hopes that its investment in Newport will strengthen its relationship with car buyers in Wales. “Our new site will offer hundreds of cars on one forecourt, housing the equivalent of £4-5m worth of vehicles,” he said.
The supermarket claimed it had already sold 30,000 cars — mainly sourced from mainland Europe and the Republic of Ireland — to customers from Wales from its existing sites.
