BMW UK has launched a new waste management and recycling programme across its dealer network.
The new service offers a single point of contact for businesses — collecting everything from oil filters to fluorescent tubes. This in turn enables the dealerships to cut administration costs as the programme has full legal compliance.
The scheme, which covers BMW and Mini dealerships as well as authorised bodyshops will be run by Automotive Waste Solutions, which recently received the 2005 Motor Trader Environmental Award.
Steve Nash, director of aftersales at BMW, said he was confident the recycling programme would be welcomed by the group's dealerships and bodyshops. “We have ensured that AWS puts an increased emphasis on the recycling of waste. Not only is this better from an environmental standpoint, but it also avoids the rising costs and environmental impact surrounding hazardous waste and landfill,” he said.
BMW aims to cut the amount of workshop waste disposed of in landfill sites to no more than 5 per cent.
