RMI supports MoT test site computerisation

The RMI has backed the computerisation of the MoT to improve the public image of the test.

This comes despite the federation expressing concerns over a number of technical problems that have been revealed as the rollout of the system has progressed.
The worst of these glitches occurred earlier this month and saw a full system crash. This left the network crippled and all garages connected to the system unable to function for over two hours.
Nevertheless, Ian Davis-Knight, head of technical operations at the RMI, said that despite the apprehension felt by some garages, the conversion would produce a number of benefits for the sector.
He said: “The inclusion of computer technology will help dispel the image of the MoT as just a piece of paper that allows the motorist to get road tax.
“The added sense of prestige could also move us away from the concept of the cut price MoT, which has done great harm to the industry in the last few years.”
