Inchcape stays on the acquisition trail in 2005

Inchcape Retail has announced it is to expand in 2005 with further acquisitions planned.

The group currently operates around 90 sites in the UK following the multi-million pound deals for the Robert Smith and Southwell Motor Company Mercedes-Benz businesses.
Those acquisitions have swelled turnover and propelled Inchcape into the exclusive £1bn turnover club at the top of the latest Motor Trader Top 200.
Spencer Lock, Inchcape Retail managing director, said:
“We are still an acquisitive business, it's difficult to put a number on it but we are looking to expand.”
He said that the company was “absolutely wedded” to retail as a means to generate growth and was not looking to diversify into other areas.
“Our strategy is very simple and is built around our desire to grow our retail portfolio with our core partners.
“Our clear message is that we aim to achieve between 5-10 per cent of their sales volumes in the UK,” Lock added.
