Ford has confirmed that it wants its 627-strong dealer network to get direct authorisation from the Financial Services Authority to sell insurance products.
The manufacturer, which sells motor policies underwritten by Norwich Union plus gap insurance and warranties, said it would encourage all retail outlets to take the initiative. A Ford spokesman said he expected most dealers to willingly sign up, although he accepted that the decision lay with individuals. He said that Mazda outlets -- plus Aston Martin, Jaguar and Land Rover dealers in Ford's Premier Automotive Group -- would also be encouraged to take authorisation.
